This is the most important question anyone could ask me!!
IN THIS ORDER:
1. The strength of the artist?s buzz in his or her region at the street level. (Is there a real life movement behind this artist? Are fans embracing him or her? Is he or she getting paid shows yet? Where? How much? Is the industry is that region talking about the artist? Are the labels?)2. The commercial viability of the music.
3. His or her team?who is behind this artist? (Are they well connected and well respected industry folks with a track record of success or are they some fuckboys or unknown folks Forrest Gumping their way into an industry they think is easy and glamorous? I no longer work with stupid people or fuck boys?it?s too much of a headache)
4. Can they afford to do this properly and is their work ethic strong enough to win?
5. What?s the internet buzz for this artist? (How many twitter followers? Facebook friends? YouTube hits? Is the movement real or did they hire some bot shit to look bigger than they are? Are fans talking about the artist on line?)

1 ? Following
Whether it?s through the streets, internet, clubs or all 3, having genuine fans to support you music is a must for any artist. I?m more interested in the artist that I hear people talking about at the barbershop or if I?m in the club and people go so crazy for a song that I have to rush to the DJ booth to see who?s track it is. This means more to me than an artist that is just promoting themselves.
2 ? Presence
While I was standing in line at the DMV I heard a Future ringtone ? Future blasting from someone?s earphones ? and someone mumbling Future lyrics within 5 minutes of each other ? and these were all different songs. Having a presence in your own city is very vital in this game.
I?ve seen artist that can go to NYC and rock a packed show up there but can?t sell 10 tickets to a show in their own city.
3 ? Servicing
Whether it?s your mixtape, single, video ? that shit needs to be serviced thoroughly. Travis Porter, Tity Boi, and FKi do this the best out of anybody ? and it?s not a coincidence that their closely connected through mgmt, djs, etc. As a DJ I understand the importance of having a big name DJ cosign your mixtape w/ drops and s/o?s but on the flip side as a DJ I?m not going to play your tracks in the club w/ drops drowning out the actual track. Anytime the previous artist I?ve mentioned drop a tape they quickly release DJ service packs w/ 4 or 5 tracks, (CLEAN DIRTY), for the DJ?s + mix shows to add to their mix.
4 ? Consistency
If you want to be an artist that puts out 2 projects a year ? you better make sure those projects are consistently dope or people will quickly talk about how you?re falling off or you?re irrelevant.? If you put out 6+ projects a year people will expect new music 2 weeks after you just put out a mixtape. It amazes me how people will call a song ?old? when it just started getting play 1 month prior. But that?s the microwave generation we live in ? so chose wisely.
5 ? Originality
Artist, find yourself a couple of dope producers and establish your sound.
Don?t chase what?s hot right now b/c by the time your figuring out the hot sound it will become the old sound and your always will end up in 2nd place.

1. Organic ? If the artist has natural appeal. Do they spark the interest of others with little to no effort?
2. Authentic ? Are they true to the art they are selling? ?It?s easy to see through Bull Shit, no one respects a fake!
3. Quality of Music ? You have to have great songs. ?Music that matters and that people want to hear for years to come.
4. ?Quality of Person -?Always be Professional.?No one wants to work with an ASS HOLE! ??Your attitude determines your altitude?, in the words of my grandmother and I?m sure yours too LOL.
5. Other talents with earning potential ? How many ways can we generate a revenue stream? ?Do we have platforms that we can build from? ?Can one situation lead to another or benefit an existing one.
