The new vehicle will help the nationally recognized North Carolina Symphony continue their broad travels across the state to bring world-class talent and musical performances to North Carolina students and communities each year. ?The Symphony?s vehicle is a vital component for transporting the orchestra?s valuable instruments in a structurally sound, temperature and humidity-controlled environment in order to maintain instrument integrity.? In recognition of SECU members? contribution as a partner in education, the vehicle will be designed with an exterior wrap highlighting the SECU Foundation alongside the Symphony.

The North Carolina Symphony is the state?s premier professional orchestra and largest performing arts organization.? Through its commitment to artistic excellence, statewide service and music education, the Symphony performs approximately 175 concerts each season. It travels over 12,000 miles annually, reaching nearly 250,000 adults and children every year through performances in concert halls, auditoriums, gymnasiums and outdoor settings in North Carolina communities all across the state. West Caldwell-Caldwell Fall Sports Registration Begins - Caldwells ...

The West Caldwell-Caldwell Recreation Department is now accepting registration for fall sports.

The following programs are available for children who live in Caldwell and West Caldwell:

Youth Soccer?Grades 2-8

All children in grades 2 through 8 are welcome to participate in the Recreation Soccer Program. Volunteer parent coaches are needed. Program starts after the school year. Fee is $45 (2nd and 3rd), $55 (4th and 5th) and $65 (6th, 7th and 8th).?

Cross Country?Grades 4-8

Cross country running is a sport in which runners race on open-air courses in parks. This distance running sport will be supervised by Lisa Merriweather. The program takes place at Grover Cleveland Park?(meets at pond house) on Mondays and Thursdays from Sept. 13 through Nov. 1, from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $40. Registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 7.

Volleyball?Girls in Grades 6-8

The first few sessions of Recreation Volleyball consists of practices and tryouts, after which a travel team (seventh and eighth grade girls only) will be picked. The remainder of the girls will be placed on teams to play in an in-town league. The program takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays from September to November in the Grover Cleveland Middle School?gym. Cost is $55 (additional $45 for travel team members).?

Iberia drags IAG to Q2 loss

LONDON (AP) ? The owner of British Airways and Iberia has reported a second-quarter loss due to a fall-off in business at the Spanish carrier.

For the three months ending June 30, International Consolidated Airlines Group reported a loss of ?95 million pounds ($116 million) compared to a profit of ?38 million a year ago.

Revenue was up 14 percent to ?3.9 billion, and fuel costs were up 25 percent to ?1.6 billion.

Iberia posted an operating loss of ?263 million in the first half, while British Airways managed an operating profit of ?13 million.

IAG downgraded its full-year guidance from break-even on operating profit to a "small" loss.

The company added that said industrial action by employees, higher fuel prices, the negative impact of exchange rates and economic weakness in Spain had all contributed to Iberia's losses, which are expected to continue for the rest of the year.

"Iberia's problems are deep and structural and the economic environment reinforces the need for permanent structural change," said IAG Chief Executive Willie Walsh. He said this is like to include downsizing in the short term and reshaping the network.

"Inevitably, we will not be able to avoid job losses as part of this process," he said.

The company also announced that it had set up a eurozone crisis management group to make contingency plans for further economic shocks to the 17 countries that use the euro ? up to and including a possible Spanish exit from the single European currency.

IAG shares were down 4.5 percent at 152 pence in morning trading in London.

"Although this is not a huge disappointment, we see clear downside risk to consensus estimate," said Gerald Khoo, analyst at Espirito Santo Investment Bank.

"The July traffic statistics were not particularly encouraging either, with premium traffic up 1.5 percent vs. non-premium up 5.6 percent and a flat passenger load factor." Khoo said.

In July, British Airways reported a 6.9 percent gain in revenue passenger kilometers while Iberia was up 0.9 percent. By the same measure, British Airways it 8.8 percent ahead for the first seven months of the year while Iberia is down 2.9 percent.

Spain arrests al Qaeda suspects planning European attacks

MADRID (Reuters) - Three people linked to al Qaeda have been arrested in the south of Spain, one in possession of explosives they planned to use in attacks in either the Iberian country or other European nations, Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz said on Thursday.

He said police arrested on Wednesday two al Qaeda members from ex-Soviet republics close to Ciudad Real who were likely heading to France, and a Turkish man near Cadiz whose house was searched and where explosives were found.

The minister said one of the two arrested near Ciudad Real was a senior al Qaeda operative who had extensive experience in bomb-making.

"It is one of the most important operations against al Qaeda to date to be carried out on an international level," he said.

"There are clear indications that the suspects arrested could have been planning an attack in Spain, and or, other European countries," the minister told a news conference.

He said the operation was conducted with the help of other international police forces, and that the explosive material was being analyzed. No details were given on how much material was found, though the minister said it was enough to blow up a bus.

An attack in 2004 outside a key railway station in Madrid which killed 191 people was blamed on al Qaeda.

Google Street View tours the Kennedy Space Center

If you've ever wanted to visit a NASA Space Center and examine a shuttle up close, this may be your best chance to do so without actually flying to Florida or Texas. Google has rolled its Street View gear through Kennedy Space Center, and?you can now view everything from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launch pad.

In the Vehicle?Assembly Building, you can check out the Atlantis and Endeavour shuttles, looking well-used. In the Apollo/Saturn V center, get a sense of just how massive those Saturn V rockets are. Examine the wall of mission badges, commemorating the missions of more than?100 launches and landings. Google's blog post detailing the project has all the links you need.

Don't look for any astronauts or engineers, though: it looks like they cleared the place out before Google swung by with their Street View car and trolley.

There are tours you can take of the Space Centers, of course, but there's something special about wandering around at your own pace, examining things up close and getting a feel for the place. There's a lot to explore, so take your time.

Kennedy is the latest in a series of on-site Street Views of famous landmarks and areas. Others you might want to check out: 10 Downing Street in London; Shackleton's hut in Antarctica; the Rio Negro in Brazil; and several national parks in California.
